Spiritual Benefits of Meditation
Since the dawn of history, the practice of meditation has been associated with the attainment of higher spiritual states. Regardless of the hustle and bustle of modern living, practitioners of meditation still find the practice helpful to their spiritual health and development. Meditation enables all human beings to commune with the Deity; it is an inner dialogue with God and serves as a pathway to the comprehension of inner mysteries. The practice facilitates spiritual communion with God; blending the human mind with the mind of God Almighty. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth” (John 4:25). Meditation is the best way to worship God in spirit and truth.
Whereas the physiological and psychological benefits of meditation had so far been the main focus of the Western World, exploration of the spiritual aspects of meditation has been just begun. Recent progress in brain research has provided a clear evidence of the spiritual dimension of meditation. It is now known that the desires, values, outlook, and goals of people who meditate tend to shift from material things towards selfless things, personal growth, and spiritual fulfillment. Regular deep meditation makes you more conscious of the fact that the Spirit of God resides in you and within you.
Meditation fortifies your religious and spiritual experience and commitment, enhances and enriches your understanding of the Higher Power within you. A conscious contact with the God you believe in gives more power to your prayers. “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). You cannot feel the presence of God until you have stilled the outer earthly consciousness of your materialistic self and allow the subliminal spiritual self to rise to the heights necessary for communion with the Consciousness of God. Meditation elevates the higher capacities of your mind and consciousness, and increases your perception and awareness of God’s presence within and around you. Jesus of Nazareth learned and knew how to commune with the Father for harmony, health, inspiration, guidance, knowledge, wisdom, and healing power.
